Ukraine’s 2025/26 Grain Season Closes at 37.5M Tonnes
Ukraine’s grain exports for the 2025/26 marketing year closed on 30 June at 37.5 million tonnes of grain and pulses — 7.7% below the previous season. Corn did most of the heavy lifting, and the ports that moved it are the ones shippers already know: the Odesa hub of Odesa, Chornomorsk and Pivdennyi.

How the 2025/26 season closed
By the Ministry of Agrarian Policy’s count, exporters shipped 37.46 million tonnes of grain and pulses over the year. Corn led with 21.28 million tonnes (down 3.1%), wheat followed at 14.13 million tonnes (−10.1%), and barley came to 1.52 million tonnes (−34.4%). Another 62,000 tonnes left as flour.
Grain remains the backbone of dry-bulk throughput at the working hub, so those tonnes translate straight into vessel calls, bulk transshipment and freight forwarding across Odesa, Chornomorsk and Pivdennyi.
The year-on-year dip wasn’t a demand collapse. Wheat sales firmed late in the season on buying from Egypt, Algeria and Indonesia — enough to keep berths busy into the summer.
What the 2026/27 season sets up
Analysts at UkrAgroConsult put the new wheat crop near 23 million tonnes, with large carry-in stocks that could push export potential above last year — even as those same stocks weigh on prices early in the season. Bigger corn and barley volumes are on the cards too.
For cargo owners, the practical read is steady dry-bulk work from late summer, and the familiar need to line up tonnage and port calls before the first wave.
New-crop wheat usually moves in August–September. Fix tonnage and book transshipment windows early — berth slots for the first export push tighten fast.
Moving grain through the working hub
A grain shipment touches several desks at once — agency, chartering, forwarding, transshipment and customs. We run them as one line, so a cargo owner keeps a single point of contact from fixture to sailing across Odesa, Chornomorsk and Pivdennyi.
