Ukraine’s seaports handled 40 million tonnes of cargo since the start of 2026, more than 20 million tonnes of it grain. The figure comes from Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction Oleksii Kuleba. Grain alone accounts for over half the flow, and all of it moves through the working hub of Odesa, Chornomorsk and Pivdennyi.

Grain carries the half-year

Half of the six-month flow came from grain — more than 20 Mt out of 40. For an agri exporter that is familiar arithmetic: oilseeds, wheat and maize head for the deep-water berths of the Odesa hub, where a vessel has to be nominated and cleared on time. At Dragon Maritime we handle that end to end — from ship agency to customs clearance of the parcel.

Why the hub holds the volume

Three ports with different specialisations keep the throughput up. Pivdennyi takes capesize tonnage at depths up to 19 m — ore and bulk in large ship parcels. Chornomorsk, with berths up to 13.5 m and heavy rail access, handles containers and heavy lifts. Odesa runs dry cargo and liquid bulk. That split lets calls be spread across terminals rather than piling onto one.

The 40 Mt is a cumulative total since January. The working ports remain Odesa, Chornomorsk and Pivdennyi; the Mykolaiv ports are not operating as of mid-2026, so shipments cannot be routed through them.

What it means for the shipper

A steady flow means a predictable window for a port call, but feeder booking and the loading slot still need to be secured early — corridor tonnage is limited. If you move grain, ore or containers through the south, keep cargo insurance ready and your container shipping plan agreed in advance.
